Server-side tracking
Server-side tracking, set up on your own subdomain.
We move your tags to a server-side Google Tag Manager container on your domain, connect GA4, the Meta Conversions API and Google Ads enhanced conversions with Consent Mode v2, and match tracked purchases to real orders before sign-off. The calculator below shows what hosting costs at your traffic.

What server-side tracking hosting costs at your traffic
A store sends 10 to 20 requests per visit. For your own number, take last month’s event count in GA4 and add about 20% for ad-platform hits.
List prices, monthly billing, excluding VAT, checked 14 Oct 2026. Euro and dollar prices are shown as charged, not converted. Google Cloud is a range because you pay for running servers, not a plan.

What we set up
Server-side tracking we set up and hand over
Everything runs in accounts you own: the tracking server, the containers and the subdomain. The full scope:
- 01
Tracking server on your subdomain
A server-side GTM container on Stape, TAGGRS, Addingwell or Google Cloud Run, served from a subdomain such as data.yourstore.com.
- 02
GA4 through the server
Events routed through your container, with IP addresses and personal data removed before anything leaves it.
- 03
Meta Conversions API
Server events sent alongside the browser pixel and matched by event ID, so each purchase counts once.
- 04
Google Ads enhanced conversions
Hashed email and phone sent with each conversion, only when the visitor has consented.
- 05
Consent Mode v2
Your banner’s consent choices passed to every tag, and respected by the server tags too.
- 06
TikTok, Pinterest and Snapchat
Their events APIs connected the same way, for the channels you actually advertise on.
- 07
Shopify checkout events
Checkout and purchase events taken from Shopify’s customer events, which is how checkout is tracked now that checkout.liquid is gone.
- 08
Deduplication and testing
Test orders, GA4 DebugView and Meta’s test events, with tracked purchases matched to real orders before sign-off.
- 09
Monitoring after launch
A regular check that conversions in each platform still match your orders, fixed when a platform changes its API.
Why server-side
Browser-only tracking misses sales you already made.
- Ad blockers
- Safari limits
- Conversion APIs
Ad blockers stop the scripts that report to Google and Meta, and Safari deletes cookies written by JavaScript after 7 days, so a customer who comes back a week later looks new. A tracking server on your own subdomain sends those events from your side instead, sets longer-lived first-party cookies when it shares your site’s IP range, and feeds the conversion APIs that Meta and Google use to match sales to ads. It still follows consent: a visitor who says no is not tracked.
- 7 days
- Safari’s limit on cookies written by JavaScript
- 10–20
- Requests a typical store visit sends to the server

- Server receiving every hit, instead of a script per vendor

Choosing a host
The right host depends on your request count, not the plan name.
- Billed by requests
- Caps and overage
- Self-hosting
Most hosts bill by requests: every hit your site sends to the tracking server. Stape and TAGGRS sell plans with a cap, Addingwell charges overage instead, and Google Cloud Run bills for the servers you run. We size your volume from your GA4 data, recommend the host in writing and set it up in your name, so you pay the host directly and can switch later.
- $20

What we’d pick
- Under 500K requests
Stape Pro or TAGGRS Basic
$20 or €25 a month, and either is plenty. Stape includes its cookie keeper, which helps Safari attribution.
- 1M to 5M requests
TAGGRS Pro or Stape Business
TAGGRS is €65 up to 3M requests. Above that, or if you want multi-zone uptime and 10 days of logs, Stape Business at $100 covers up to 5M.
- 10M requests and up
TAGGRS Ultimate or Stape Enterprise
€145 for 10M, or $200 for 20M with an account manager. Addingwell suits sites that would rather pay overage than hit a cap.
- Shopify, no developer
Elevar
Several times the cost of hosting alone, but the tracking setup comes with it. Compare it with hosting plus a one-off setup.

How we work
How a server-side tracking setup runs
Six steps from the audit to a tracking server you own, each ending in something you can check.
Tracking audit
We list every tag, what it sends and where conversions are lost today, and size your monthly requests from GA4.
You get: an audit and a host recommendationHost and subdomain
The tracking server is created in your name on the host that fits, with the subdomain and DNS records set up.
You get: a running tracking serverContainers and tags
GA4, Meta, Google Ads and any other platform you use, moved to the server container with a slim web container in front.
You get: published containersConsent and deduplication
Consent Mode v2 wired to your banner, and event IDs shared between browser and server so nothing counts twice.
You get: a consent and event mapTesting
Test orders, GA4 DebugView, Meta test events and Google Ads diagnostics, with purchases matched to real orders.
You get: a test reportMonitoring
We watch match rates and conversion counts after launch and fix what changes when platforms update.
You get: ongoing checksFrequently asked questions.
What is server-side tracking?
Instead of every vendor’s script sending data straight from the visitor’s browser, your site sends events to a tracking server you control, usually a server-side Google Tag Manager container on your own subdomain. That server forwards them to GA4, Meta, Google Ads and the rest, so you decide what is sent and the data reaches the platforms more reliably.
Does server-side tracking get around consent?
No, and it should not. The server still has to follow what the visitor chose in your cookie banner, and we wire Consent Mode v2 so it does. What it reduces is data lost to ad blockers and to Safari’s 7-day limit on cookies written by JavaScript.
Which host should we use: Stape, TAGGRS, Addingwell or Google Cloud?
It depends on your monthly requests. Under 500K, Stape Pro or TAGGRS Basic is plenty; from 1M to 5M, TAGGRS Pro or Stape Business; above 10M, TAGGRS Ultimate, Stape Enterprise or Addingwell if you prefer overage to a cap. Google Cloud Run suits teams with their own developer. The calculator on this page shows the price at your volume.
How much does server-side tracking hosting cost?
On 14 Oct 2026, from $20 a month (Stape Pro, 500K requests) or €25 (TAGGRS Basic, 750K requests), up to $200 (Stape Enterprise, 20M) or €145 (TAGGRS Ultimate, 10M). Google Cloud Run costs about $90 a month for the two servers Google recommends as a minimum, at about $45 each, and more as traffic grows. You pay the host directly.
Do we still need the Meta pixel and GA4 tag in the browser?
Usually a slim version of them, yes. The browser and the server send the same events and the platforms deduplicate them by event ID, which gives the best match rate. What changes is that the browser sends one stream to your server instead of every vendor loading its own script.
Does it work with Shopify checkout?
Yes. Shopify tracks checkout and purchases through customer events (Web Pixels), which is the supported route now that checkout.liquid is gone, including on Shopify Plus. We send those events to your tracking server and on to each platform.
How long does the setup take?
Most of the work is mapping events and testing, not configuration. The timeline comes with the written quote, and nothing replaces your live tracking until the test orders match.
How much does the setup cost?
One fixed price in writing after a short call, based on how many platforms and events are involved. It is separate from the hosting bill, which you pay the host directly.
